MAZE PICTURES is an independent production company headquartered in Munich and Berlin, with holdings in RED BALLOON FILM and SUPERNIX. Our team combines an extensive network within the international film and television industry with years of creative expertise to produce unique stories for a global audience.

Since our founding in 2015, we have focused on projects that resonate with both critics and audiences alike. Our first feature film, THE HAPPY PRINCE - the directorial debut of Rupert Everett, starring Colin Firth - premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2018 and received a worldwide theatrical release. The action-comedy GUNS AKIMBO, starring Daniel Radcliffe, screened at TIFF in 2019 and shortly thereafter became a major platform hit. The drama SIBERIA, directed by Abel Ferrara and starring Willem Dafoe, premiered at the 2020 Berlinale. Abel Ferrara’s ZEROS AND ONES, starring Ethan Hawke, was also a standout in competition at the 2021 Locarno Film Festival, winning the award for Best Director. With MY FATHERS (MEINE VÄTER) by Julia von Heinz, maze pictures contributed to the documentary feature anthology ISOLATION, which screened at the 2021 Venice Film Festival. The first two seasons of the fantasy TV series HEIRS OF THE NIGHT won numerous awards for children’s and youth programming. As a French-German co-production with StoriaTV, France2, ZDF, and ZDF Enterprises, we have also been producing the bestselling adaptation THE CRIMSON RIVERS as an 8-part TV series since 2018; most recently, Season 4 premiered successfully in 2023. Our co-production SUNSHINE EYES by Maria von Heland won the Special Jury Prize at Series Mania in 2022 and subsequently streamed on Netflix. Our German-Canadian co-production RUMOURS, an ensemble comedy starring Cate Blanchett and Alicia Vikander, celebrated its world premiere at Cannes in 2024 and successfully entered international theatrical release in 2025. The Big Audience Award winner ANOTHER GERMAN TANK STORY by Jannis Alexander Kiefer saw a successful theatrical run in the spring of 2025 and is still touring international festivals. Recently released projects include our German-French 6-part series PHOENIX and the second season of our Bavarian series HIMMEL, HERRGOTT, SAKRAMENT by cult director Franz Xaver Bogner. IN THE NAME OF THE EMPRESS, the feature film debut of director and writer Jovana Reisinger, premiered on German TV in late 2025 and subsequently won the 2026 Grimme Prize in the Fiction Special category. Additionally, our German-Italian co-production THE LAST ONE FOR THE ROAD celebrated a highly successful theatrical launch in Italy in 2025, received numerous nominations (most recently for the David di Donatello Awards), and is currently preparing for its German theatrical release in the fall of 2026.

Through our joint venture SUPERNIX and a strong partnership with PENZING STUDIOS, we delve into higher budget co-productions. Completed productions include the second season of the hit series NINE PERFECT STRANGERS starring Nicole Kidman, the remake of THE CROW (2024) starring Bill Skarsgård and FKA Twigs, and RETURN TO SILENT HILL (2026), a sequel to the successful horror franchise, once again directed by Christophe Gans. The action blockbuster CLIFFHANGER, starring Pierce Brosnan and Lily James, is currently in post-production. Filming for THE UPRISING was successfully completed in 2025, and the film is now in post-production. Another major highlight in our pipeline is RIDDICK: FURYA, the latest installment in the popular Riddick franchise, which is set to be produced and filmed in Germany.
